Brain Medicine is a medical specialty that brings together neurology, psychiatry, and related disciplines to more effectively and holistically treat brain-based disorders.

Our mission at Brain Health Maine is to bring an exceptional standard of comprehensive, integrative treatment of brain-based disorders to Maine.

We offer diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of illnesses that affect mood, memory, behavior, organization, daily functioning, and sense of overall well-being.

These illnesses can be neurologic, psychiatric, or both.

Some of the conditions we treat include:

  • memory and other cognitive difficulties, including mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and subjective cognitive impairment (SCI)

  • dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, Parkinson’s disease dementia, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, frontotemporal dementia, and many others

  • post-concussive symptoms and traumatic brain injury (TBI)

  • depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse

  • psychiatric symptoms associated with neurologic diseases, such as anxiety, depression, dementia, or psychosis caused by Parkinson’s disease or mood disorders, anxiety, grief, and personality changes caused by stroke

  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • complex medical presentations involving multiple medical specialties

  • autism spectrum disorder, including ASD level one, formerly known as Asperger’s

  • and many others
