Free reading resources

Did you know that millions of ebooks, audiobooks, newspapers, magazines, and more can be accessed for free from home? Check out these incredible resources.

Digital Maine Library

In 2018 the Maine State Library and Maine InfoNet created the Digital Maine Library, an incredible online resource that ensures every Mainer the right to read. This expansive collection includes magazines, newspapers, journals, learning tools, references, and more. All content is made available through public funding administered by the Maine State Library and from the University of Maine. Check out the Digital Maine Library by clicking the logo, and you can register for a free Digital Maine Library card with this link: https://libraries.maine.edu/mainedatabases/marvelauth/users/register.asp

Maine InfoNet Downloadable Library

Maine InfoNet received a $40,000 grant in 2008 to offer libraries in the state the opportunity to provide their patrons access to downloadable audio books via the CloudLibrary app.  Now more than 200 Maine libraries participate and sustain this resource for Mainers. Click the logo to find your library and download the CloudLibrary app.

Libby

Some Maine libraries use the Libby app instead of the CloudLibrary app (above) to connect patrons to their digital resources. If your local library was not listed in the CloudLibrary app, check here to see if your library participates through Libby. (If not, some libraries let you sign up within the app for a digital library card and then connect via Libby.)

MaineHealth Lending Library

This is a great health education resource for all Mainers that is free and easy to access. It also uses the Libby app, shown above. Once you are issued a MaineHealth Lending Library ecard, you will be able to connect to their resources through the Libby app. See what digital resources are available by clicking on the logo, and you can register for the free MaineHealth Lending library ecard by using this link: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/714086c9a2e747c4b285f243030d6203
